There is a moment early in the morning when the house is still quiet, the sun hasn\u2019t fully come up, and the kitchen is already coming to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For me, that is where the magic begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A typical production day at Sunny\u2019s Kitchen Delights<\/strong> often starts around 5:00 in the morning. Before the emails, the market preparations, the labels, and the conversations with customers, there is flour, fruit, jars, dough, and a very important cup of coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first thing I do is check on whatever has been fermenting, resting, or preparing itself overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sourdough, of course, has its own schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can plan all you want, but sourdough always reminds you that good food cannot be rushed. I look at the dough, feel its texture, check its fermentation, and decide what it needs next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, the kitchen begins filling with those wonderful aromas that make getting up early worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Warm bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fruit slowly cooking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Cinnamon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Freshly brewed coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before long, the quiet kitchen becomes a small production space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Making preserves is one of my favorite parts of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is something beautiful about watching fresh fruit slowly transform into a rich, colorful preserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It starts simply\u2014with fruit and carefully selected ingredients\u2014but as everything cooks together, the flavor deepens and the kitchen begins to smell incredible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Each batch requires attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I watch the consistency, the temperature, the color, and most importantly, the flavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because small-batch cooking means you are constantly present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You aren’t simply pressing a button on a machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You are cooking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once the preserves are ready, the next stage begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jars are prepared, filled, closed, cleaned, and eventually labeled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is the part people rarely see when they pick up a beautiful finished jar at a farmers market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Behind that little jar are many individual steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And yes, sometimes the kitchen counter disappears underneath rows and rows of jars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But seeing them all finished is incredibly satisfying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Each one represents something we made ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then there is the sourdough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sourdough is very different from preserves because you never truly tell it exactly when it will be ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Temperature, humidity, fermentation, and time all play a role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some days the dough moves quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other days it seems to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Not yet, Sunny.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n And so I wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That patience has become one of my favorite lessons from baking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eventually, the loaves go into the oven, and that first smell of freshly baked sourdough fills the kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n No matter how many loaves I make, I still love that moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Production is only one part of the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are also labels to check, products to organize, tables to prepare, supplies to pack, and all the little things required to transform our kitchen into a farmers-market stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The goal is always the same:<\/p>\n\n\n\n When you walk up to our table, everything should feel welcoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But behind that peaceful little display is usually a kitchen that has been very busy for many hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Small-batch production requires more time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It requires patience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And it would certainly be easier to make everything more industrial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But that would change what Sunny\u2019s Kitchen Delights<\/strong> is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I want the food we make to feel like something that came from a real kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because it did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are real hands preparing it, real recipes behind it, and a real family story connected to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And when someone comes back to the market and tells me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Sunny, we finished that jar already.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n or<\/p>\n\n\n\n “That bread didn’t survive the ride home.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I know all those early mornings were worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So the next time you see one of our jars or sourdough loaves, remember:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Its journey probably began while most of the neighborhood was still sleeping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And somewhere around 5:00 in the morning, Sunny\u2019s Kitchen was already awake.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The alarm goes off at 5am, the kitchen smells like warm bread by 7.
